Nokia recently announced that it will soon launch its cloud-based subscription service. This service is targeting telecom companies for providing software around analytics, security, and data management.
Some of the company’s software services are available under subscription many more commercialized services shall follow in the coming year. Senior Vice President Mark Bunn said that when the company had started its software division in 2016 since then wanted to get into the subscription business. The company is also offering a service where customers can try the platform service for a particular period and then opt for a long-term commitment. They have built the underlying technology that will help it operate at a larger scale. Nokia is already in talks with potential customers and is targeting a market of 3.1 billion dollars from 2021 to 2025. They are estimating the growth of 20 percent to 30 percent annually.
Nokia says that their software service for their communication providers will enable faster time to value for network services. They aim to give telecom operators a less expensive, more flexible, and more customer-centric pathway for operating their network and delivering new services.
The company says that this is a natural evolution of Everything-as-a service, an important element to the company’s overall strategy. Nokia has decided to restructure its software applications to make them fully cloud-native and deploy them in any cloud environment, edge, public or private.
This approach by the company will reduce complexity by providing innovative software consumed purely on demand, through a subscription avoiding large expenditure. With 5G services opening up, there would be many new security risks due to more access points in networks. Hence communication service providers will require automated security that will greatly reduce the cyber-attack threat called NetGuard Cyber security Dome. The company also plans to launch SaaS-based Nokia Anomaly Detection that will be commercially available from 2022.
